Overview

The skilled stream of the Migrant Program is designed to attract the migrants who make a significant contribution to the Australian economy. It fills the positions where the availability of Australian workers is low. It stimulates the economic growth which results in generating new jobs.

The Skilled Immigration is a point based immigration stream designed to improve the productive capacity of the economy and fill the skill shortages in the labour market, including those in regional Australia.  The points are calculated on the basis of factors like Age, Education, Experience, English language skills, Specialist education qualification, Australian study requirements, Professional year in Australia, Credentialled community language, Study in Regional Australia and Partner Skills.

The government has eligible skilled occupations for this program it is called Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)

The Skilled immigration is classified under the below mentioned categories:

  • Skilled Independent Visa (Sub Class 189)
  • Skilled Nominated Visa (Sub Class 190)
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494)
  • Skilled Recognized Graduate visa (subclass 476)
  • Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional ) visa (subclass 191)
  • Regional Sponsored Migration scheme visa ( subclass 187)
  • Skilled Regional visa (sub class 887)
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)
  • Skilled Regional (Provisional ) visa (sub class 489)
