Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (NSNP)

The NSNP is an Immigration program which has options for skilled workers, graduates and entrepreneurs. Through the NSNP prospective immigrants who have the skills and experience targeted by Nova Scotia may be nominated to immigrate.

The below mentioned streams are offered by NSNP.

  1. Nova Scotia Labour Market Priority– This stream selects the candidates in the Federal Express Entry system who meets the provincial labour market needs. Only candidates who receive the Letter of Interest are eligible to apply.
  2. Labour market priorities for physicians– This stream selects the physicians to apply for the nomination through the Federal Express Entry. Only candidates with an approved offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre who receive the letter of Interest from Nova Scotia can apply.
  3. Physicians-This stream assists Nova Scotia public Health authorities. This stream assists The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK)- to hire General Practitioners , family physicians to work in Nova Scotia. This stream helps the NSHA and IWK to recruit and retain physicians with the required skills for the positions that they have been unable to fill with the Canadian PR holders or citizens.
  4. Entrepreneur– This stream is for experienced business owners or the senior business managers who want to live in Nova Scotia. These people must start a business or buy an existing business and must actively participate in the day to day management of the business. After operating the business for a year, the entrepreneur may be nominated for the permanent resident status. The net worth required for this category is CAD $ 600,000 and the minimum investment is CAD $ 150,000
  5. International Graduate Entrepreneur– This stream is for recent graduates from Nova Scotia University or the Nova Scotia community college. They must have already started or brought a Nova Scotia business and operated it for atleast a year. If they intend to settle in Nova Scotia, the graduate may be nominated for Permanent Resident status.
  6. Skilled Worker– This stream helps the employer recruit the foreign workers and recently graduated international students whose skills are needed in Nova Scotia. An employer can only hire foreign workers for positions they have been unable to fill with Permanent residents or Canadian residents.
  7. Occupations in Demand– The occupation in Demand stream targets specific NOC C , intermediate- skilled occupations that are in high labour market demand in Nova Scotia. The province identifies occupations in demand based on labour market information and eligible occupations are subject to change.
  8. Nova Scotia Demand- Express Entry– This stream selects highly skilled individuals who wish to live in Nova Scotia permanently. Applicants must have a good chance to quickly finding a job in the province.  The government reserves the right to consider only certain type of occupations for nominations, depending on the current labour market needs. This stream is the most active stream in Nova Scotia and is accepting only limited occupations world-wide.
  9. Nova Scotia Experience- Express Entry– This stream selects highly skilled individuals who wish to settle and live in Nova Scotia permanently. Applicants must have atleast one year of experience working in Nova Scotia in high skilled occupation.

Nova Scotia Demand- Express Entry

This stream selects highly skilled individuals who wish to live in Nova Scotia permanently. The government reserves the right to consider only certain type of occupations for nominations, depending on the current labour market needs. Applications will only be accepted online. There are two categories under this stream.

Category A (for applicants with a job offer) will remain open.

Eligibility

To apply under Category A, applicant must meet the below mentioned requirements.

  1. The applicant must have a profile registered in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s Express Entry system
  2. The applicant must score 67 points or more on the stream’s six selection factors ( please refer our Federal Skilled Worker Manual)
  3. The applicant must have a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer for full-time skilled work that lasts at least one year after your permanent resident visa is issued. For a job offer to be valid in Express Entry and receive points, employers will usually need an LMIA.
  4. The applicant must have 1 year of skilled work experience related to the job
  5. The applicant must have a Canadian high school credential or equivalent
  6. The applicant must have language ability in English or French at CLB 7
  7. The applicant must have enough financial resources to successfully settle in Nova Scotia i.e. Proof of Funds.

Category B (for applicants with experience in an opportunity occupation) is expected to open and close throughout the year. Controlling intake will allow to process applications more efficiently.

Eligibility

To apply under Category B, the applicant must meet the below mentioned requirements.

  1. The applicant must fall under one of the target occupations as identified in the Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry guide
  2. The applicant must have a profile registered in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s Express Entry system
  3. The applicant must score 67 points or more on the stream’s six selection factors
  4. The applicant have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in one of the target occupations
  5. The applicant must have a Canadian high school credential or equivalent
  6. The applicant must have language ability in English or French at CLB 7
  7. The applicant must have enough financial resources i.e. proof of funds to successfully settle in Nova Scotia.
