The UK Tier 1 Investor Program
The Tier 1 Investor Visa, is a niche programme and essentially operates a three-tiered investment category which allows investors with higher levels of investment to be given UK citizenship more quickly.
Overview of the program:
- Investment of atleast £2 million.
- Residency in the UK for the investor and his/her immediate family (dependents).
- The Visa is granted for 3 years and 4 months and after this period the Investor and dependents can apply to extend for a further 2 years.
- Investors can thereafter apply for ILR (indefinite leave to remain) after 5 years and British citizenship after 6 years.
- For investments of £5 million it is 3 years before one can apply for settling in the UK and for £10 million it is 2 years
Eligibility
In order to be eligible, the applicant’s funds must be:
- kept in a regulated financial institution; and
- free of any constrains with respect to spending in the UK.
The applicant must be able to show evidence and proof of his/her investment funds:
- the source of the funds, if they have been available for less than 2 years;
- that the funds are capable of being transferred to the UK and can be converted into Sterling (if it is not in the UK already)
Investment requirements:
Applicants can invest in UK regulated Government bonds, share capital or in active and trading UK registered companies or invested in the UK either by purchasing assets or by depositing the funds in equity funds regulated by UK regulated financial institution.
The higher the investment (and therefore the net personal assets required), the faster the applicant will obtain their stay for settlement (ILR).
