Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program

Overview

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is an economic immigration program that nominates people for permanent residence in Alberta. The AINP nominates applicants who possess the skills and abilities to fill labor shortages in Alberta, and be able to provide for their families.

The AINP accepts skilled worker applications under the Opportunity Alberta stream and under the Express Entry system. It also operates one business program, the Self-employed Farmer stream.

The program is run by both the Alberta government and the federal government.IRCC allocates to AINP a limited number of nominations each year.Interested candidates must follow a two-stage process: apply for nomination to the provincial government, and then, if nominated, apply for permanent residence to the federal government.

The AINP accepts applications under 2 streams:

The Opportunity Stream

The Opportunity Stream was launched in June 2018 and was designed to simplify the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program application process, reduce waiting times and make the system fairer for candidates and employers.

Interested Applicants must demonstrate fulfillment of requirements at the time of submission of application and at the time AINP assesses the application.Eligible Applicants must have a valid temporary resident status in Canada and they must work in an eligible occupation. The Applicants must be residing in Alberta; show a minimum language requirement of CLB level 5 (different levels for nurses, aides, orderlies and patient service associates); work experience in Alberta (or combination of Canada and Alberta); and must have a bona fide full-time job offer from an Alberta employer.

Post-Graduation Work Permit holders are required to meetcertain additional requirements. Some of these requirements are:

  • current occupation must be related to the applicants field of study in Alberta;
  • the credential must be on the Alberta Opportunity Stream approved list; and
  • must have a minimum of 6 months full-time work experience

The Express Entry

This stream allows Alberta to nominate a limited number of qualified candidates from Federal Express Entry pool, through periodic draws.

Applicants who have demonstrated strong ties to Alberta or who can help support the government’s economic development and diversification priorities may be asked to submit an application.

International graduates from Canadian post-secondary institutions may also be asked to submit an application under this stream.

  • have stated an interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta

The following adaptability factors may increase the applicant’s likelihood of receiving a Notification of Interest letter:
