There has been an exponential growth of Indians acquiring permanent residency in Canada. It was reported by Times of India that, one out of every four foreigners who has been granted for permanent residency (PR) is an Indian. The immigration targets of Canada has skyrocketed by twenty – five percent in 2019 by admitting Indians. Canadian PR is similar to the US green card it allows applicants and his/her family to live, study and work in Canada. It opens up the gateway for many opportunities for newly settled Indians. This is the second consecutive year that Immigration to Canada has exceeded 300,000 applicants. The trend is said to continue as the Canadian government has prescribed the admission targets too many categories of Immigration, it is reported 341,000 for the current year and 305,000 for 2021. • The rise in figures for overall admission of 321,000 applicants in 2019 as compared to 2018 is around 6.2% whereas when compared with the figures of 2017 compromising 286,000 applicants, the rise of is over 19%. • India has been on the top of the charts based on citizenship showing an increase of 22.3 % from 2018 and 66% as compared to 2017. TOI (June 15, 2018) has previously reported that, applicants who are applying for PR, are not only those who are directly coming from India but also the holders of H-1B visa in US who are facing difficulties in obtaining green cards residency and have opted to move to Canada. Significantly, India has now superseded China in number of Canadian permanent residency applicants making China as the distant second following Philippines, Nigeria and USA as the top five source countries for new residents. It is noteworthy that 8% of eligible immigrants who are in Canada temporarily for the purpose of study or work intends to obtain permanent residency in near future. • China accounts for approximately 9% of total number of permanent residents admitted 30,260 applicants. • The rise of figures as compared to 2017 and 2018 are reduced, 0.03 % and 1.85 % respectively.

As per the reports, In 2019, out of total number of permanent resident 196,000 applicants were admitted under the economic class whereas 27% of them under family sponsorship and lastly, 15% were refugees who were granted permanent residency.
